The good-looking and ever charming actor Matthew McConaughey made his breakthrough by starring in the comedy movie Dazed and Confused almost three decades ago. Since then, he has been ruling the entertainment industry with his stellar performances and mesmerizing personality.

The evergreen 50-year-old actor continues to surprise us by playing fascinating and convincing characters in movies with different genres. Most of his movies were blockbusters, and he bagged many awards for his spectacular performances, including an Oscar for Best Actor for the film Dallas Buyers Club.

Upon finding out that it can most effectively be treated by AZT – a medicine that is still in the stage of its clinical trial, he tries to get hands-on it by any possible means.

He joined hands with another AIDs patient (Jared Leto) smuggling and selling the drugs to whoever is suffering from the deadly disease and can’t wait for the establishment to save them. In 2013, the movie made a whopping $55.7million worldwide gross at the box office.

Working out of the backseat of his Lincoln, Mickey Haller (Matthew McConaughey), a defense lawyer, is asked to defend a rich playboy (Ryan Phillipe) from Beverly Hills. Although he claims to be innocent, since Mike has spent most of his time defending petty crooks, he believes something is fishy about the case.

While he is surprised to have landed the case of a lifetime that would guarantee a huge monetary reward, looking at the evidence, he thinks it isn’t as black and white as it seems to be. This American legal thriller earned gross $87.1million worldwide in 2011.

As it is uninhabitable for humans, a team of scientists, pilots, and engineers attempts to find another habitable planet for them. While professor Brand (Michael Caine) works effortlessly to save the people by sending them to another planet through a wormhole, a former NASA pilot Cooper (played by Matthew McConaughey), with a team of researchers, must travel to the other world and explore if it is livable.

Cooper is sent across the galaxy to determine which of the three planets possibly has the right environment to sustain human life. The movie made gross earnings of $675million worldwide at the box-office.

Matthew McConaughey played Benjamin Berry, an advertising executive who claims to be confident in his romantic prowess. Two of his female co-workers challenge him to make a woman of their choice fall in love with him in 10 days. On the other side, Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson), an advice columnist, is working on her next story on “how to lose a guy in 10 days”. She is on the lookout for a man for her experiment.

As these two meet, their plans backfire. The rom-com is fun to watch to see who can complete the mission. The movie, released in 2003, made a gross $177.4million at the box-office.

One of McConaughey’s recent hits is The Gentlemen. His character, Mickey Pearson, is a talented American Oxford graduate who builds a marijuana empire in London. Later, when he tries to sell and make some cash out of it, he experiences a chain of events. To steal his domain, many characters emerge, bribing and blackmailing to acquire Pearson’s profitable business.

The movie was a hit with a total of $115.2million gross earnings.

In 1970, Marshall University’s football players, coaches, and staff died in a plane crash. One of the players Nate Ruffin, who couldn’t make the fatal flight due to his illness, tries to convince the board of governors to play the season. However, they need to find a coach who can train the young team to win the match. One year later, in 1971, Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) arrives at the scene willing to coach the team. He leads the team and motivates the young players to give their best.

Lengyel convinces them that winning is the only thing, and it will even help heal the grieving community. Families of the deceived seem to find solace watching the Marshall play again. The father and the fiancée of one of the players, who had passed away in the crash, were also able to gather the courage to move on from the tragedy. The movie, based on a true story of a tragic incident in American sports history, had gross earnings of $43million worldwide.

When a 10-year-old American-African girl is raped, her father becomes outrageous and kills the culprits. The father, Carl Lee Hailey, played by Samuel L. Jackson, seeks justice. He approaches the lawyer Jake Brigance (Matthew McConaughey) to defend him. However, Brigance is unsure if he could get Carl acquitted from the case.

Since Carl had killed the rapists outside the court in front of many witnesses, it is not easy to defend him. Also, against him is tough Rufus Buckley, making it more challenging for him to win the case.  Regardless of these issues, Carl has faith in Brigance and is confident that he will help him. At the worldwide box-office, the movie made $152million.

The two 14-year-old friends,Neckbone and Ellis, set out to an island on the Mississippi River. Neckbone discovers a sight boat that was suspended in the trees. Both the boys climb the tree to go inside the boat. They see fresh bread and the footprints of a man. As soon as they realize there is someone else too with them in the boat, they decide to leave. However, when they reach the shore, they see the same footprints in their boat too. And that’s when they meet the gritty – superstitious character Mud, played by Matthew McConaughey.

Wearing dirty clothes and having crooked teeth, Mud asks them for help. They develop a friendship as the boys agree to give him food in exchange for the tree houseboat. Mud has killed a man, and he only wants to meet his love Juniper. Both the boys try their best to reunite Mud with her while protecting him. The movie was a success at the box-office with gross earnings amounting to $315million.
